lobster dresses,
What: A presentation-installation at The Dairy, complete with performance from its designer Philip Colbert.
The look: Models took to podiums in lobster dresses, sequin-bikini suits and pop art prints. Entitled Venus in Sequins, it was a fun and fresh collection from Colbert who has been absent from the fashion scene since 2008 - read about it here. "I have written a song of the same name [Venus in Sequins] an homage to Venus in Furs by the Velvet Underground, as a contextual reference to the avant-garde art scene in New York that has influenced the designs. I have developed the collection with intense embroidery and sequin work - I wanted to make each piece with the sparkle and detail that would make the outfits feel like works of craftsmanship and art," Colbert told us.

What: With a Central Saint Martins BA and MA to her name, as well as stints working with Vivienne Westwood, John Galliano and Giles Deacon, Yang Du started her career well, going on to launch her label in 2009.
The look: Surreal and animal-friendly – Du uses prints of all sorts of critters and characters to adorn her designs, something which stems from her love of toys. The knitted gloves – not dissimilar to finger puppets – are especially cute.

womenswear collection
What: The Irish-born designer held two salon-style presentations during London Fashion Week to showcase his second womenswear collection. Originally having started out in menswear, so strong and successful was the aesthetic that a demand came from buyers to do a womenswear collection.
The look: "Inspired by youth spirit and liberation. An optimism for the future. Tearing down the architecture that defines you to create a new image. Being unexpected and familiar simultaneously, having many sides that all work and conflict against each other to create a multi-dimensional self," Anderson tells us.
Where: Current stockists: Browns, Liberty, LN-CC, ASOS.COM.

the jewellery label
What: Having launched her label in 2005, Italian designer Grazzini opened her first Assya standalone boutique in 2006 and counts Cheryl Cole, Elle Macpherson and Eliza Doolittle among her fans. Grazzini was a finalist for The Best Young UK Jewellery Designer at the Italian Jewellery Awards in 2009.
The look: The Peace and Love Charm collection (ring, pictured) is inspired by the ethereal properties of natural stones and symbols – this cage ring in particular has caught our eye.
Where: Visit www.assya.co.uk for further information. Rose quartz cage ring in 18ct gold, £210.
handbag label
What: Sisters Leona Erziak and Hasna Erziak studied in Brussels and at the Arasapel Design School in Milan before launching their handbag label – which combines handcrafted designs with a strong sense of luxury.
The look: Our eye was particularly caught by the dainty box bags that could have stepped straight out from the Thirties. Bags to covet.
Where: Visit www.lenaerziak.com for further information. Bono bag in black, approximately £1,537.94.

Heather Blake, shoe designer
What: With a background in Fine Art, Heather Blake's shoes can be defined by their solid yet sensual sculptural lines. Blake was an art teacher in Hong Kong and London before deciding what she really wanted to do was to design and make shoes. A diploma course at Cordwainers College, a stint at Foster & Sons on Jermyn Street, a Masters degree at the Royal College of Art and winner of ITS5's Accessories Collection of the Year later (2009, in fact), and Blake launched her business.
The look: Blake has collaborated with designer David Longshaw for his autumn/winter 2011-12 collection, creating a pair of seriously cool and floral-festooned vertiginous platforms. Of her designs she describes them as being "predatory, luxurious, sinuous and extreme".
Where: On maternity leave last season, Blake currently makes to order. Prices from £460 to £1,000. Wedge bootie, pictured, £690, www.heatherblake.co.uk.

TATA NAKA PRESENTATION
What: Following the label's 10th anniversary and return to LFW last season, Tata Naka held a presentation-cum-lookbook shoot in the Portico Rooms.
The look: The twins were inspired by America in the late Fifties, particularly Las Vegas and its transformation from a small desert town to becoming a star-studded hangout. In sartorial terms, this translated into elegant dresses and tailoring in Hawaiian resort wear-inspired prints and Fifties-style illustrations, a bright palette and sequin-embellished loafer wedges.

Footwear Association.
What: Angular and elegant sculptural creations inspired by Art Deco. Stoker graduated from Cordwainers in 2009 with an MA in Footwear Design and, along the way, has notched up awards from the ITS Trieste Italy international competition, the First into Fashion Award with Jimmy Choo and the Footwear Friends Award sponsored by the British Footwear Association.
The look: Stoker's autumn/winter 2011-12 collection takes its influence from the sky lines of New York in the Art Deco era – think hard-edged and angular lines combined with precious stones, mosaic and leather.

The look: A captivating mix of gobstopper diamonds and unusual stones.

What: A sophisticated presentation from designer Saloni Lodha at the Savile Club's ballroom.

Run to the Sun is a swimsuit and women’s fashion store in Anchorage, Alaska. As part of the annual Women’s Show in April 2009, Run to the Sun had a fashion show. One of the models invited me to attend to shoot the event. It was pretty cool – great afternoon, the only drawback was the lighting in the Sullivan Arena wasn’t very good. I met several of the models afterward and hope to shoot with them in the future.

My friend Lady Battikah (Anna) organized this American Gothique fashion show at Mad Myrna’s in Anchorage, Alaska in early May 2009. She described it as Techno Gothic and invited me to photograph it. I did so with some trepidation since I had no idea what I was getting myself into – but it was a blast. From what I can tell, Techno Gothic equates to Gothic with loud colors and attachments such as gas masks. I learn something new every day!

This silk robe à la française is on display at the Royal Ontario Museum. It was made in England in the 1750s. The placard says, "Mid-18th-century Rococo silks are characterized by delicate floral meanders. The design features peonies and pomegranates brocaded in silver threads… The back of this formal sacque gown is made of three full widths of silk seamed together, then draped into pleats, stitched to the lining at the back and released to display the bold pattern."
